Robert Erskine Childers

Robert Erskine Childers DSC (25 June 1870 – 24 November 1922), generally known as Erskine Childers,/ˈɜːrskɪn ˈtʃɪldərz/was a British author,



 whose works incorporated the persuasive novel The Riddle of the Sands, and a Fenian progressive who snuck weapons to Ireland in his cruising yacht Asgard. He was executed by the specialists of the early Irish Free State amid the Irish Civil War. He was the child of British Orientalist researcher Robert Caesar Childers; the cousin of Hugh Childers and Robert Barton; and the father of the fourth President of Ireland, Erskine Hamilton Childers.
